My first post . I'm the new kid on the block. I found a guy who used to be a Deere dealer as of last year, and no longer is , and has a NEW 4100 hydro 4x4. He want's 11000.00 for it. It has one hour on it. Is this a bullet proof tractor ? He also has a 2001 NEW 455 L&G tractor.

If you mean new, a 2001? 1 hour seems kinda strange even for a dealer tractor that old but not impossible. The price is very good as a 2001 4100 hydro 4wd goes for about $11,500 to $12,400. Why is he selling the tractor? Nothing is bullet proof but yes, they are nice tractors. Some in early production had issues with the front axles causing turf damage. The 4000 series tractor got off to a rough start with more than a few problems but got worked out towards the end of production. Go test operate the tractor out and see if you like it. If it is in as good a shape as you say and you like it; it is an excellent price. Question is, what is your intended use for the tractor and does it fit your need? Go for it if it does! ....

As I mentioned in my first post, he was a dealer. This is some of the tail end of his inventory after he stopped being a dealer. I forgot what year it is, but do remember it being the last year of production for a 4100. I'm not sure when Deere stopped making them when the ten series started.. As far as do I need it, no I don't. For example, I have a 1992 Deere 430 with a 60" mower,47" 2-stage snowblower, and a model 246 rotary street sweeper that is near new condition that all fit only the 430, and 420. 352 hour's is all. It's a beauty. I may have the 430 sold, and might pickup the 4100 as a replacement to mow with. It does sound odd for 1 hour, It may very well have 3, or 4 hour's even, but he said only the factory has put what hour's on it that it has. If truth be known, alot of these tractor's are sold to men who don't need them, but want them. I sold a 1988 Deere 322 garden tractor with a 46' deck, and a 47" 2-stage snowblower to a guy a couple year's ago, and his lawn was half the size of a 48 foot semi trailer flat bed. I'm serious! He told me that he doesn't need it, but that he just really likes toy's!!! I'll consider the 4100 if only my 430 sell's. I know nothing about the 4100. If I buy the 4100, it will be near new condition in 11 year from now as is my 430 is near new with it being 11 year's old. ....

I can identify with getting it but not needing it and liking to play with toys! LOL! From what you tell me, that is a VERY good deal. Worst comes to worst, you could sell the 4100 and not take much if any loss on the price. Go for it! I love toys. I am trying to talk the treasurer I mean wife into a pressure washer. Jury is still out on that one. ....

If you have a tractor, you have to have a pressure washer. Just like if you have a car you must have some sort of hydraulic jack. It is the natural order of things. P.S. I am still working on my pressure washer too.... it is coming this month. Then I can pretty up all those globby dirty grease fittings.
On the 4100: My research shows it did not suffer the mechanical and steering maladies that plagued the rest of the line. It will make a fabulous mower for you and if anything will run even longer and more trouble free than what you have now.
Do you recall what sort of tires are on it?
